The Threesome, a romantic comedy drama, was directed by Chad Hartigan and written by Ethan Ogilvy. This star-studded cast of Zoey Deutch, Jonah Hauer-King, and Ruby Cruz will have you seeing what one night can impact your life and relationships.
The Threesome is about a guy named Connor who is serious about building a relationship with Olivia, but she won’t even give him the time of day. He is on a date with Jenny to make Olivia jealous. Olivia and Jenny cross paths and the next thing you know, these three end up out at a club, dancing, and having a threesome. The only thing is, both Olivia and Jenny end up pregnant and things are really starting to fall apart.
To be completely honest, the first 15 minutes or so, I was kind of scratching my head because I wasn’t sure if I was going to like this film or not. The one thing I will say is that I did enjoy the path it took after that initial setup to the plot of the movie. The second half of the movie is 100% a drama, and I really found myself connecting to every single character. The ball was rolling at this point, and I enjoyed every single moment of this ride.
I think this film does some things with the subject matter that we do not often get to see, at least realistically, on screen. The film shows real relationships and the messiness that they can become. This is happening in our society and I enjoyed the way that the story is told. It’s a movie that is so very heavy on the idea of forgiveness. The forgiveness of others, but more importantly, the forgiveness of yourself and your own journey. It really does make you think about what we as human beings can tolerate, and what we can tolerate when we fall in love.
I give this film 3.5 stars out of 5. The Threesome premiered at South by Southwest and will be coming to theaters on September 5th.
