Netflix’s Black Rabbit, an eight-episode limited series, is an absolute must-see. Starring Jude Law and Jason Bateman, the show follows two estranged brothers who are also successful restaurateurs in New York City. The plot kicks off when a gambling debt pulls them into the city’s criminal underworld, jeopardizing both their lives and their business.
From the first scene, this show is a masterclass in acting. Jude Law is so good he’s criminally underrated, delivering a top-tier performance that’s no exception to his recent work. The on-screen chemistry between Law and Bateman is phenomenal; they’re so believable as brothers, which is a rare feat with such a detailed script. While Jason Bateman’s performance has that classic “Jason Bateman” charm at times, it works perfectly for the character.
But it’s not just the acting that stands out. The cinematography is magnificent and tells its own story. The way the show pulls in all the textures of New York City is stellar and adds to the constant tension. The writing is just as complex and ambitious as the visuals, weaving in themes of family trauma, addiction, loyalty, codependency, and the struggle to find your place. While there are a lot of characters to keep up with, the dynamic storytelling and multiple layers make it feel brilliant.
Netflix got this one right. This is the high-quality limited series I want to see them keep producing. It’s beautifully crafted, full of heart and grit, and the performances will leave you wowed.
