Remember when I accidentally purchased “4DX experience” for Beetlejuice? This time I accidentally ended up watching Mufasa: The Lion King in 3D! Evidently, I need to be more careful when purchasing movie tickets online! 😅
But alas, these mishaps can be good surprises sometimes. And, in this case, the 3D actually made the whole experience even better!
Here’s my opinion of the Lion King prequel:
Storytime: “Mufasa” takes us back in time to explore the origin story of everyone’s favorite lion king. We see him as a cub, navigating a new world he is thrown into and learning what it means to be a leader. While the story itself was decent, I felt like they over-explained things at times, almost as if they were worried the audience wouldn’t remember the original Lion King.
Song Of The Day: If you’re expecting another cult soundtrack of the original, think again. The song are just okay. There are some decent songs but nothing that stuck with me or made we want to run and download the soundtrack.
Visual Feast: This is the place the movie comes to life! The CGI animation is just gorgeous. And with seeing it in 3D, I found myself standing there in the African safari alongside Mufasa and the pride. It was absolutely stunning in its detail, never jarring or annoying.
Warning : Mufasa is a Disney film, however, there are some graphic moments in it that may scare young children. There’s a lot of pre-established violence and some pretty rough fights. Just a cautionary tale for parents!
Final Verdict:
My overall rating on Mufasa: The Lion King is 3/5. For me, the 3D effects were by far the best and they made the entire movie worth it. I definitely recommend it if you’re a The Lion King fan, just remember to double-check the tickets before you buy them! 😉
