The film’s direct social commentary will seem overt to many viewers yet I found its approach invigorating. Joon-ho’s mastery as a storyteller shines through his ability to blend humor with impactful storytelling.
Robert Pattinson gives an amazing performance while portraying Mickey. He captures the character’s natural vulnerability and humorous self-deprecation which transforms his portrayal into a relatable yet compelling lead. Pattinson proves his acting abilities beyond just being a heartthrob through this role which represents a significant departure from his previous films. Mark Ruffalo, Naomi Ackie and Toni Collette bring strong performances that enhance the depth and complexity of the film’s storytelling.
Technically, “Mickey 17” is a marvel. The film’s cinematography delivers stunning visuals which highlight both the beauty and the profound isolation of its setting. The film exhibits great special effects while its creature designs combine creativity with unexpected humor. The editing maintains a speedy tempo that doesn’t make it seem like it’s a film that’s over 2 hours long.
Where some anticipated a follow-up to “Parasite”, “Mickey 17” stands as a distinct and unique film. Audiences will be split over this movie while it inspires debates and extends its political and social impact.
