The Cannes Film Festival once again delivered an extraordinary celebration of global cinema, marked by triumphant returns, standout premieres, prestigious honors, and exclusive gatherings that brought together the industry’s most influential voices. From award-winning films to high-profile events along the Croisette, this year’s festival underscored both artistic excellence and the enduring vitality of the international film community.
Andrey Zvyagintsev marked a powerful return to the Cannes Film Festival following a near-fatal illness during the COVID-19 pandemic, reaffirming his stature as one of contemporary cinema’s most formidable voices. The acclaimed Russian director was awarded the prestigious Grand Prix for his latest feature, Minotaur.
A subtle yet deeply immersive work, Minotaur emerges as a masterful political thriller-drama. Directed by Zvyagintsev and co-written with Simon Liashenko, the film draws inspiration from Claude Chabrol’s 1969 classic The Unfaithful Wife. Set against the backdrop of the ongoing Russo-Ukrainian war, the story centers on Gleb (Dmitriy Mazurov), a fractured business executive grappling with the discovery of his wife Galina’s (Iris Lebedeva) infidelity. With its emotional intensity and geopolitical undercurrents, the film is poised to be a major contender in the international feature category this awards season.
Post-premiere celebrations remain among the festival’s most sought-after invitations, offering an exclusive extension of the official selection’s buzz. Notable gatherings included a fête for Paweł Pawlikowski’s Fatherland at The Villa, as well as a seaside celebration for Palme d’Or winner Cristian Mungiu’s Fjord at Magnum Beach.
The Elvis Mitchell Suite once again hosted an exceptional lineup of talent for intimate, in-depth conversations with renowned critic Elvis Mitchell. Held at the Rendezvous Room at the Diane Theatre within the Hôtel Barrière Le Majestic Cannes, the series welcomed prominent guests including Andy Garcia (Diamond), Lukas Dhont and Michiel Dhont (Coward), Ira Sachs (The Man I Love), and Ron Howard (Avedon), among others.
Organized by Screen International, with Olsberg- SPI as a supporting partner, the Global Production Awards continue to spotlight the often-overlooked contributors shaping the global screen production landscape. Celebrating excellence across film and television, the awards honor outstanding achievements by production companies, locations, studios, and industry bodies worldwide.
Held on May 18th at Mademoiselle Gray Plage Barrière, the ceremony recognized a wide spectrum of categories, including sustainability initiatives, community impact, diversity and inclusion, production innovation, emerging locations, and film commission teams, among others.

DJI unveiled its latest innovation, the Osmo Pocket 4P, during a special presentation at Hôtel Barrière Le Majestic Cannes, signaling a significant advancement in handheld cinematic imaging. Building on its leadership in gimbal and imaging technology, DJI introduced the device as a compact yet powerful filmmaking tool designed to deliver professional-grade performance in a truly portable format.
Since pioneering the handheld gimbal camera category in 2015 and launching one of the first pocket gimbal cameras in 2018, DJI has continued to redefine how creators capture motion and visual storytelling. The Osmo Pocket 4P further expands these possibilities, attracting leading directors of photography to the event, including Tudor Panduru (Fjord), Paul Guilhaume (Emilia Pérez), and Mátyás Erdély (Moulin).
The French Riviera Film Festival, the boutique festival celebrating short form content, was a great compliment to the main festival once again this year. Founded in 2019, the French Riviera Film Festival celebrates innovative storytelling across film, television, web, and digital platforms. Held during the Festival de Cannes, each year FRFF brings together filmmakers, industry leaders, media, and influencers for screenings, networking events, vip receptions, and a closing gala awards ceremony. The festival also features the annual Global Entertainment Showcase event, this year featuring an all women panel of filmmakers – Christina Rose, Edit Jakab, Gen LaGreca, Kristina Reiko Cooper, and Veronika Emily Pohl, with Rehna Azim serving as moderator.
Several specialty honors were also presented throughout the two-day festival in addition to the main competition awards. At the exclusive, star-studded opening reception hosted at Bel-Air Fine Art Gallery, filmmaker and actor Christian James Madsen received the One to Watch Award, while filmmaker and artist Eva Lanska was honored with the Creative Excellence Award. During the closing ceremony, British actor Oliver Trevena was presented with the Spotlight Award.
Equally notable is the Longevity Code Gala Dinner, that took place on May 17 at the iconic Hôtel Martinez. The inaugural invitation-only gathering, curated by producer extradinaire Irina Biss, explored the future of human longevity, healthspan, and vitality, convening leading scientists, innovators, investors, and cultural influencers. Designed not as a conference but as a “curated table of minds,” the evening emphasizes purposeful exchange and strategic connection. Actress Katherine Kelly Lang was honored with the Longevity Icon Award, underscoring the event’s intersection of science, culture, and influence, while Eva Lanska was honored again with the Longevity Through Art Award. Featured speakers include some of the world’s leading voices in wellness, including beauty futurist Shalini Vadhera, creator of the Space Skin Era and founder and CEO of Ready Set Jet, the world’s first space certified skincare company focused on skin resilience as longevity launched aboard the Axiom4 mission to the ISS.
